Lloyd Davis is our "Social Artist in Residence"
How does Lloyd define Social Artistry?
"The process of skilfully bringing people together in such a way as to create a sense of beauty and attraction in those that see or participate in it"
Lloyd’s work revolves around bringing people together face-to-face and online to build rich, productive relationships.
He's going to run a series of events for people with a range of creative and technical interests creating experiments to see what collaborations might emerge.
These events will be based on learning from Lloyd’s work in the last two years founding The Tuttle Club, which brings together a diverse group of social innovators from all over the UK (and often beyond) in London every week.
We’re also intending to introduce other people working in the field of social art, both to work with Lloyd on experiments and also for them to bring their own individual practices to support what the Centre is doing.
One area I’m interested in is seeing how Lloyd’s experience can help the University collaborators work together in the creation of a new space for interaction with a wide group of others; SMEs, freelancers and maybe some corporates!
A particular interest at the moment is the significance of the web and cloud computing for culture and creative industries. How is this technical infrastructure affecting our social and commercial infrastructures? What can we learn about ourselves by engaging with the web? What strategies can individuals and organisations develop to make the best use of these cultural effects?
Lloyd’s experience has been that these questions are best answered through human-scale, structured conversation. He’s going to begin his residency by starting some of these conversations with interested parties in the space.
